For Jo Kira, House music is a passion. the love story can be traced back to her
early days when she bought her first ever record, Thomas Bangalter's 'Trax on
the rocks vol. 1'. Soon after hearing this 4 track ep, Jo
realised
something - she was hooked!
Whilst other girls her age were out chasing boys, Jo was collecting vinyl, and
teaching herself how to mix on her brother's decks! With a little help from her
brother (Jason Fakeerah), Jo quickly perfected her mixing skills, and began to
broaden her musical horizons. Her musical preferences soon progressed, with
artists such as the S men, Barbara Tucker, Tuff & Jam and Masters At Work
greatly influencing Jo’s musical style behind the decks.
Jo’s dedication soon paid off, when she landed her first ever gig at an all-girl
DJ night called 'Love At First Sight'. This marked the beginning of a promising
involvement within the local music scene, and the night was received with open
arms by Leeds clubbers, who were sick of male DJ's taking all the limelight. Jo
secured a residency at the night, and along with her female counterparts,
brought a unique sound to the Leeds masses.
As her confidence grew, Jo became heavily influenced by the choppy, tough
jackin’
sounds of the Rhythm Masters and other similar producers. Her DJ’ing sets
quickly evolved to incorporate tougher jackin’ beats along with funky vocal
tracks. When asked to describe a typical set Jo replied: 'I like to take a
mixture of sounds in my DJ bag. I
Since her first residency, Jo
Kira has played guest slots at various club venues across the UK, entertaining
crowds of clubbers including super clubs such as Club
Mission and Gatecrashers ‘Discotheque’ in Leeds,
to name but a
few.
Jo Kira can currently be heard playing various guest slots throughout the UK, as
well as her radio show ‘My House’, on
www.hyperadio.co.uk
every Thursday between 6pm and 8pm, alongside Marvin Swiftfinger G.
Jo has now established herself as a skilled and talented DJ, who is well
received and respected on the Northern Club Circuit. Jo definitely has the
potential and seems destined to become one of the top female DJ’ing talents in
the years to come.
As our first female signing, Jo Kira now has the added status as the ‘first
lady’ of JBB Entertainment Solutions.
