Workshy Rene first started DJ’ing back in 1999, when he was invited to play at
Toni Tambourine’s “City Loud Christmas Party” on the eve of the DJ Magazines
Top100 Results night at Turnmills.
Rene then decided to embark upon a new business venture, along with a friend,
and Decorum Promotions was born. Through Decorum, Rene launched the nights
“Heaven” and “Mass” in Brixton. During the 18 months that followed, Rene’s
career flourished and he regularly played alongside DJ’s such as Matt Hardwick,
JFK and Tim Sherridan on a regular basis.
Following his initial success, in [year], Rene relocated to the North of England
where he began playing regular slots in and around the Manchester area. His
name soon filtered around the club scene and he was offered a weekly residency
at Soviet Bar in Barnsley, where he played a mixture of Funky House with Beats
and Breaks, setting the scene for Funky Vocal House in Barnsley.
Since then, Rene has held residencies at “HedKandi” at LeCorum in Barnsley, The
Boiler Rooms in Doncaster, “Electrocute” at The Warehouse, in Leeds and
“Glasshouse” at Mission in Leeds. He was also appointed as Tour Manager for The
Glasshouse’s, “From Ibiza With Love” promotion which was hosted at venues all
across the UK.
Along the way, Rene has played alongside DJ’s and Artists such as
Brandon Block, Jeremy Healy, K-Klass, Graeme Park, Alex P, MYNC Project, Cris
Coco, Tom Neville, Yousef, Chris Lake, Pete Gooding, Richard Dinsdale and DJ Gee
to name but a few.
Rene is one of the pioneers of the new sound which can now be heard in clubs
across the UK. Playing a blend of Electro, Tech House, Techno and Bassline
sounds, Rene continues to push boundaries with every set he plays. Feeling more
comfortable on 4 CDJ's and a Pioneer EFX1000 he has a talent for building the
crowd into a frenzy every time he plays out.
Rene’s passion for music continues to push him to further in his career as a
full time DJ, Producer and Radio Presenter.
Along the way, Rene has played guest spots on various Radio stations including
“The Saturday Sessions” on www.radiosa.co.uk alongside the SpinSta. He
presently hosts his own radio show "The Workshy Hours" on www.di.fm/electro on
the 4th Wednesday of every month.
Rene currently holds residencies at “Workshy Nights” @ Club Le Fez, SE14, and
Stereo Slut in Manchester, and is due to reside at both Ministry of Sound &
HedKandi (Egypt) from July 2008 onwards.
With 2008, seeing the launch of his own promotion company “Workshy Nights” in
London, and his newly established label “Workshy Records” which is all set to
blast onto the scene with it's first release in July 2008. Rene has now laid
the foundations for what ought to be an exciting year, with the launch of
“Workshy Nights” (in association with Twisted Disco) at Pacha in London on 27th
June 2008.
